- Aug 07, 2018 Disabling RDP Network Level Authentication (NLA) on RDS Windows Server 2016/2012 R2. After studying the issues of RDS server based on Windows 2012 R2, we have found that Windows Server 2012 (and higher) requires mandatory support of NLA (Network Level Authentication). If the client doesn’t support NLA, it won’t be able to connect to the RDS.
- Remote desktop licenses are add-on s for Microsoft Windows Server that unlock the ability for specific devices or users to access the central server from anywhere they’re located using their existing software. Doing so allows remote users to get more done for your home, small business or enterprise using modern cloud capabilities.
Windows Rds Licensing
-->Each user or device accessing a licensed Windows Server requires a Windows Server CAL or a Windows Server and a Remote Desktop Services (RDS) CAL. With the User CAL, you purchase a CAL for every user who accesses the server to use services such as file storage or printing, regardless of the number of devices they use for that access. An RDS CAL is a license that allows users/devices to access and utilize Windows Server published resources, such as Windows applications, desktops and files. This license model provides a way to pay for capacity used: the more users or devices accessing your resources, the more RDS CALs you require. Microsoft RDS, in contrast to VDI, is a server-based technology. (Note: previously, RDS was named ‘Terminal Server’). It doesn’t run on the (for example) Windows 10 version you run on your PC, but on ‘Windows Server’.
